A Note About Local Hospitals and Clinics

Even though abortion is legal in California, local hospitals like Northern Inyo Hospital and Mammoth Hospital choose not to offer voluntary abortion. They do offer surgical abortions to people having miscarriages, a procedure they could offer to everyone. There are some staff who will prescribe abortion pills, but the hospitals and clinics in Inyo and Mono have chosen not to advertise these services.

The people who run these hospitals are afraid of controversy in our local communities, and may think these procedures aren't in demand. With more pressure, it is possible they will realize the very real need for all reproductive health procedures to be available in the Eastern Sierra. If you feel up to it, contact them, but know that it is very unlikely they will help you.

Note: There is a clinic in Bishop called Options Pregnancy Center. This is a crisis pregnancy center run by a religious, anti-abortion organization and they will not help you get an abortion.
